# Can I offer gift codes or discounts?
## For MerchStores created on or after 10/21/2026:
Yes, visit [here](https://www.merchology.com/pages/request-organization-pay-gift-codes-discount-codes-for-merchstores) to submit a request to enable gift codes and discount codes for your MerchStore. Once enabled, you can create and manage them from your Store Dashboard.
**Gift Codes**
You can offer two types of gifts:
- **One free item:** Allow the recipient to select one free item. If your store uses categories, you can assign the gift to a specific category to limit which products are eligible.
- **Gift card with a cash balance:** Provide the recipient with a set dollar amount to use in your store.
You can also set an optional expiration date for gifts.
Once a gift is created, select the gift and click **Send Email** to email the recipient instructions for using their gift. You can also include a custom message in the email.
When the recipient selects Shop Now within the email, it will take them directly to the store, and auto apply the code to their cart at checkout.
Gift codes do not require pre-purchase. Your account will be charged after the gift is redeemed. A credit card must be stored on your account for these charges. Gift code charges for orders placed on the store account will be charged to the credit card stored on your account the following day.
**Discount Codes**
Discount codes can reduce an order subtotal by either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage.
You can create your own discount code, such as **WELCOME25**. Shoppers must enter the code at checkout for the discount to apply.
Discount codes can be used on multiple orders until you disable them.
A credit card must be stored on your account to use discount codes. Discount code charges for orders placed on the store account will be charged to the credit card stored on your account the following day.
